 Overview

Sustainability is a complex subject and its application in the water industry is constantly changing. The courses offer flexible training solutions such as Standard, Accelerated, Customized. The courses will equip participants with the knowledge required to embed sustainability into their daily work. The courses are designed with interactivities to keep the participants engaged throughout.  To enhance the learning experience, the trainers will provide a variety of interaction options using a combination of pair-shares, small group work and whole group discussion.  

Objective

An introduction to sustainability definitions, concepts and principles. The economic, environmental, social and governance dimensions of sustainable development will be illustrated including various forces that may impact an organizational operation and how sustainability impacts on the water industry will be discussed. In particular, the importance of water is emphasized through an overview of the water goal under Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 6) and how it is interlinked to other SDGs of the 2030 Agenda. Promoting diversity and equality is another important aspect of sustainability as it unlocks a more sustainable future. This course will help participants understand the importance of diversity and equality, as well as how to apply it at work.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to : 

  • Define sustainability and key terms related to sustainability
  • Differentiate between development and sustainable development
  • Develop understanding of the interconnectedness of human activities and natural systems
  • Understand current social, environmental, and economic problems
  • Explain how sustainability relates to their everyday
  • Identify relevance and meaning to different people
  • Question their current understanding and recognize the assumptions underlying their knowledge
  • Establish a link between long-term goals and immediate actions
  • Develop the ability to participate in change
  • Take ownership of visions, processes and outcomes
  • Understand the business benefits of a diverse workforce and the moral case for embracing equality
  • Identify the risks of failing to address issues of inequality in the workplace
  • Explore the challenges of managing a diverse workforce
  • Build personal awareness of values, beliefs and biases that could affect behavior
  • Build personal confidence and competence to promote diversity and equality

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

These courses are suitable for anyone with an interest in sustainability in the water industry. It would be especially useful to those with direct responsibility for a company’s sustainability implementation, as well as those who are looking to enhance their organization’s competitiveness through sustainability. These are foundation level courses and no prior qualifications are required.
